Here are some ideas for delicious toppings to add to your yogurt, whether it's dairy or plant based, you will be sure to love them. If you just want a little more flavor, texture, or protein, here are a couple of ideas, but remember, the options are limitless! Have fun with it!

There are so many different types of yogurts out there nowadays that it can be hard to pick the right kind. Of course, you probably have a personal preference for brand, texture, flavor, price, etc. I do recommend that you pay close attention to the amount of sugar in the yogurt you purchase. Most have upwards for 12g per little cup of yogurt. That is absolutely unnecessary!

I personally prefer plant based yogurts made from almond milk, coconut milk and so on, but most have a ridiculous amount of sugar or artificial sweeteners. I have yet to find an entirely unsweetened brand, so if you know of one, please let me know!

I love Siggi's plant based line. All the flavors. The texture is a little thicker than most plant based yogurts, which tend to be practically liquid, and the sugar is only 8g, which is much better than most. However, Siggi, if you're out there, please make an unsweetened version! Also, I would love to be a Siggi's ambassador... just an idea :)

Now onto the toppings of the day!

Chop up some pecans for crunch and a bit more protein

Toss on a spoonful of cacao nibs

Don't be fooled by the fact that these are made of crushed cocoa beans thinking you'll be eating a ghirardelli dessert. They are fairly bitter and crunchy and are definitely not for everyone (Grace is not a fan). I love them. 10/10 would recommend. Cacao nibs have numerous health benefits from being a great source of antioxidants which help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation and have been proven to potentially reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Last but not least, always add fruit. Not only is fruit very nutritious, it gives an excellent burst of flavor, texture, and color to your yogurt.

I chose pomegranate this time, but fresh/frozen blueberries, strawberries, diced banana, raspberries, blackberries, will never let you and your yogurt down.

Try to connect the yogurt flavor with the type of fruit. Do they complement one another? For instance, vanilla and banana go very well together whereas mango yogurt and chopped banana... ummm not so much.

For my parting words of advice to you on your yogurt topping adventure, nut butter. If you are eating yogurt for breakfast, just add some peanut or almond butter. That's the only way yogurt can become a meal and will actually fill you up. Have fun yogis.
